The Man On The Side Of The Road.

If you have lived in the Portland Oregon Metro Area for any length of time, you have probably seen him around. The man who wares a tan Carheart cap and tinted glasses. He slings a black bag over his shoulder and opens it to hand out food to the homeless.

I met the man they call the Renegade today, only this time he was the one who needed help. I have made donations to Anarchy Empowered before and I know first hand that the money given goes to the men and women who it was intended for. I know this because today the Burgundy 2001 Pathfinder had to pull over to the side of the road, because the man I am talking about refuses to use the money donated to his site for anything other than food and water for those who need it most.

I pulled behind him and saw six large boxes of canned goods and the back seat was filled to the floor boards with bottled water. I knew then who I was dealing with. “You are the Renegade!” I stated.

The middle aged man smiled under his sunglasses and nodded. “This food needs to go to those for whom it was bought. But I am out of gas.” I was honored to have a chance to help as the food banks are depleted and Anarchy Empowered has stepped up to the plate.

He had a gas can I took him to fill it. I got the chance to hand out food with a local legend. Thanks for picking up the slack.
