Much of Anarchy Empowered’s food and clothing distribution project stems from my being homeless for many years during my youth. As I got older I began to realize that being homeless isn’t the problem society’s mindset against the homeless is the problem. We have all heard people say that the homeless are freeloaders or parasites on society but we never seem to look at the circumstances that got the individual there in the first place.
I started to go out into the community to hand out food and blankets to the homeless in 1998 when I first came back to the States. You see the bulk of the homeless in Paris France are young men who came to Paris hoping to join the Foreign Legion. They are told to only carry enough money for the cab ride to the enlistment center. Well France has thousands of men a year trying to enlist in the Foreign Legion every year. They can be picky. I was lucky enough to make it in. Otherwise I would have been trapped in a foreign country with no money no job and I couldn’t speak the language. This experience opened my eyes to the multitude of reasons people become homeless.
So out of my own pocket I began to buy food and clothing to distribute to those in need. Much of the time I also needed the money but I was compelled to become the hands and feet of Jesus the Christ.
